Summer Learning Journey - Recommending A Book To Curious Kiwi

For this activity I had to think about all the books I have read this year and recommend one of them to Curious Kiwi. I would recommend the book Journey To Tangiwai. This book is about a boy called Peter Cotterill who is born in Napier New Zealand. On Christmas Eve he travels by train with his scout group to Auckland and big accident happens.

  1. Hi Aminiasi,

Willy here, one of the commenters for the Summer Learning Journey programme. Gotta say, you've picked a good book for Curious Kiwi.

You know, I've read a book in the "My New Zealand Story" series. It was "Canterbury Quake" by Desna Wallace. If you're recommending this book, then I would have to guess that the authors that write the books in the "My New Zealand Story" series must be second-to-none with making the reader like the book with its main character's depiction of events, and the vivid details the authors add to give the story more spirit.

And to believe that they're based on real events!

Can't wait to see what else you post in the upcoming days!

  4. Hi AJ,

I think you have made a really good choice for your book. Being from New Zealand, Curious Kiwi will definitely appreciate that you have chosen a book about New Zealand. Well done!

The Tangiwai Disaster was a terrible accident not only for those involved, but for everyone in New Zealand. I think the book you have chosen about it would be a really interesting read for Curious Kiwi. No doubt Curious Kiwi would be able to learn a lot! I see that the book is by David Hill? Did you know that when I was your age (I'm 28 now!) that he was my favourite author? No doubt he has written a very good book here too.

    Cheers,
    Dan.
