Hazel's Visit - Summer Learning Journey

On Friday Hazel visited Panmure Bridge School to tell us about the Summer Learning Journey program that is held during the Christmas holidays. The program contains lots of activities. It starts on the 18th of December and ends on the 26th of January. The top three bloggers from each school will be given a prize. It is great that the year eights are still allowed to participate even though they are going to college next year. The Summer Learning Journey is great for students because when they come back to school they will improve their learning.

Summer Learning Journey - Day 16 Activity 1

For this activity I had to imagine that I am visiting on the national holiday of the country I chose ( the country I chose was Mexico). I then had to tell what would I eat, see and do on that day.

If I visited Mexico on their national holiday I think I would like to try a Mexican dish called Enchilada. I would want to go and see the parades that day. I would like to participate in the folklore dancing.

Summer Learning Journey - Bonus Activity

For this activity I had to go on the Gallipoli website. I then had to write three things I learned about the battle.

1. About half of the Otago Infantry Battalion were killed, wounded or missing after trying to attack on May 3rd 1915.
2. 42,000 Turks attacked the ANZAC's and out of the 42,000 Turks who attacked the ANZAC's, 10,000 were casualties.
3. On the first day of battle at Gallipoli there were 650 New Zealand casualties.

Summer Learning Journey - Day 15 Activity 2

For this activity I had to tell what I would think if I had to finish school when I turned twelve or thirteen. I would be sad because I would like to stay at school and continue to learn different types of things.

Summer Learning Journey - Day 15 Activity 1

For this activity I had to imagine I walked into the local gallery, the first piece of artwork that you see is a painting by Wassily Kandinsky called ‘Swinging.’ While you are looking at it, a staff member at the gallery comes up to you and asks you for your opinion of the painting. On my blog I had to tell what I think of this painting and if I could buy it and give it to someone, who would I choose.
My Opinion : I think that this work of art is really creative and I like how the artist used different shapes to draw something. If I could buy this painting and give it someone I would give it to my sister because she like paintings.

Summer Learning Journey - Bonus Activity

For this activity I had to decide if I wanted to be the Prime Minister of New Zealand one day. I am not really sure because if you do become Prime Minister you have got the chance to travel the world but on the other hand it could be quite a lot of work and you might be stressed.

Summer Learning Journey - Hillary Clinton Facts

For this activity I had to find three interesting facts about Hillary Clinton.
1. Hillary Clinton is married to Bill Clinton ( a former U.S. President) and was First Lady from 1993-2001.
2. She was the 67th United States Secretary of State (2009-13) who is responsible for Foreign Policy and Affairs.
3. She has a background in law having graduated from Yale Law School in 1973.

Summer Learning Journey - 3 Rules

For this activity I had to imagine I was John Key (NZ Prime Minister/Former) and I had to make up three rules for New Zealand.
1. School lessons are all outdoors.
2. Daylights Saving all year round (more time to play outside).
3. Have three day weekends instead of two.

Summer Learning Journey - The Beatles

For this activity I had to watch a trailer for a movie. The movie was about The Beetles (a famous British music band). I then had to find two interesting facts from the trailer I watched.
1. The Beatles were under a lot of pressure when they performed.
2. The Beatles had quite a lot of number 1 hits.

Summer Learning Journey - Day 13 Activity 2

For this activity I had to decide which two bands/musicians I would invite to perform at the WOMAD (World Of Music, Art And Dance). I decide to invite the Beatles and Michael Jackson. I decide to choose the Beatles because they are one of the best music band in history. I decided to choose Michael Jackson because he is one of my favourite musicians.

Summer Learning Journey - Justin Bieber Songs

For this activity I had to listen to three Justin Bieber songs (Baby, Sorry and Love Yourself). I then had to rate them. I didn't really like the song Baby. I like Love Yourself better because I liked the way the beat goes.
1. Love Yourself
2. Sorry
3. Baby

Summer Learning Journey - Day 12 Activity 2

For this activity I had to tell what is my favourite television show at the moment. My favourite television show is probably The Amazing Race. I like The Amazing Race because the contestants travel around the world and learn about different cultures.

Summer Learning Journey - Day 12 Activity 1

For this activity I had to write a short review about the video I watched from the country I chose (Mexico). The name of the video is called Maria Belen. One thing I liked about the video is that there were some funny parts. The video was a little bit hard to see because it was blurry. I would rate this video 3 stars (***).

Summer Learning Journey - Bonus Activity

For this activity I had to decide which is the best New Zealand sport. I had to choose out of rugby union, rugby league, netball soccer and cricket. I think that rugby is the best sport because it is the most known New Zealand sport. I also think that it is New Zealand's most successful sport.

Summer Learning Journey - My Favourite Sportsman

For this activity I had to write a short paragraph about my sporting hero. My sporting hero is Michael Jordan. He is my sporting hero because during his NBA career he never gave up and managed to win six NBA champions (1991,1992,1993,1996,1997 and 1998).Image result for michael jordan

Summer Learning Journey - New Zealand Sport

22 Dec 2016 11:41:36.jpg

For this activity I had to take a picture of myself playing a popular New Zealand sport. This image shows me playing rugby. I chose this sport because rugby is one of my favourite sports.

Summer Learning Journey - School Daily Routine

For this activity I had to tell what I normally do on a school day. I have written a timetable for what we sometimes do on a school day (we do different activities each day).

8:55 - Roll call
9:00 - Reading
9:45 - Writing
10:30 - Break/Morning Tea
10:50 - Maths
12:30 - Break/Lunch
1:30 - Inquiry
3:00 - Home time

Summer Learning Journey - School Subjects

For this activity I had to tell my favourite subject at school and explain why it is my favourite subject. My favourite subject in school is Maths. It is my favourite subject because I am good at it and helps me in real life problems.

Summer Learning Journey - Day 10 Activity 1

For this activity I had to compare a German school day routine with my school's daily routine. I have to find out what is similar and what is easy. I had to decide if I would rather go to school in Germany or New Zealand. I also had to tell why I feel that way. I found out that in Germany they have math classes/sessions like PBS. Things that are different are that schools in Germany start more early than schools in New Zealand and they have different classes like History. I think that I would rather go to school in New Zealand. I would rather go to a school in New Zealand because they have longer breaks than the schools in Germany. Also in Germany they have to learn multiple languages.
