Summarizing The Main Idea

Yesterday afternoon, Miss Apelu (a teacher from Tamaki College) visited LS2. We were sharing our summarizing work with her. Mrs Anderson read a short text about recycling and we had to write down the words we thought was important. We then narrowed it down to 20 words then 6 words. Using those 6 words we wrote a summary.

Similes DLO

Today for writing my group worked on similes. Similes are used to compare using the words as or like. We first needed to create a google drawing and match up the unfinished sentences. After that we had to choose on of the sentences and put it on a different DLO. I decided to choose as fast as lightning. Here is a link to my first DLO.

Maths - Even More Pizza And Things

Today I have completed my maths DLO. For this activity I had to read a the maths question and then I had to work out the problem. In the question I found a clue to help me solve the question. I had to use my multiplication skills to solve this. 

Kokako DLO

This is my DLO about the North Island Kokako that I made with Daniel and Eric. We researched about the Kokako because we place we went to for camp is called Kokako lodge. Also, there are two types of Kokako: The North Island and the South Island Kokako. We did the North Island type because the camp was in the North Island.

Bar Tailed Godwit/Kuaka DLO

This DLO includes information about the Bar Tailed Godwit/Kuaka. I have written the flight distance that the Kuaka takes from Alaska to New Zealand and from New Zealand to the Yellow sea where it refuels. I have also written what the Kuaka looks like.

Labyrinth DLO

This is my DLO that I have created about a movie LS2 watched. It is called the Labyrinth. In the movie the bad guy Jareth played by David Bowie. In this DLO we had to talk about character introductions and how you can tell who is the good guy and who is the bad guy. We then had to tell what our favourite part of the movie was.

Tahuna Torea Trip DLO

I have made a DLO with my partner Daniel about our trip. Yesterday the senior school from Panmure Bridge School went to Tahuna Torea in the afternoon. The senior school had a rotation. LS2 first had lunch and when we finished went to the Tahuna Torea reserve beach. We then had our time at the playground. We had about 30 minutes at the playground. Our last rotation was the bush walk. We saw many thing during the walk like birds and guano (pigeon poo). Here is a link to our DLO.  Tahuna Torea DLO Link

Rocket Collage

On Friday, after tech, the year seven and eights went with Mr Dunn to make some rockets. Before we made rockets that would be launched into the air, we made straw ones. Here is a collage showing some people flying or making their straw rockets.

Rockets DLO

At Tech we were working on two types of rockets. A straw rocket and a Paper rocket. I was working with Daniel, Lyndon and Harry. The first rocket we had to do was the straw rocket. We cut out pieces of paper then attached them to our straws with sellotape. We did the same with the top of the straw where we bent it and sellotaped it. We then put the small straw in the a big straw. We also used the big straw to blow the rocket out and watched it fly.

Problem Solving DLO

This my problem solving DLO that I have created. I had to work on a document which had 3 questions and I had to solve them. I had to choose one and put it on my blog.  I have put in my DLO the question, how I worked it out, the learning intention and the equations that helped me get my answer.
