My Explanation

How Children Learn At School

Children have lots of different way of learning. They are really curious. Learning is really important for children because it helps the gain knowledge. One way children learn is by asking questions. They also give feedback and ask for feed forward.

When they ask for feed forward they get learn new things which could help them in different areas of learning. Children often watch role models and copy what they do.

When children are unsure of what to do they either listen to others carefully or watch others do. They can also search it up on the internet.

When children reflect about their learning they can see where they have gone wrong and what they have to improve on. They take risks to learn new things and get a new experience.

Children have lots of different ways to learn at school. They are really curious. Learning is a really important part of a children's time at school because it helps the gain knowledge and helps them build confidence in learning.

For this task we were working in partners to write an explanation. I worked with Fatongia. We then showed another pair our explanation and they gave us feedback and feed forward. Our feedback wast that we have great ideas and our writing is well layed out. Our feed forward was that we should try not to repeat things.

Capitalisation

In my writing group we have been learning how to use capital letters correctly. You are supposed to use capital letters at the beginning of a sentence, a name of a person, name of a place, acronyms and names of tv shows/movies.

Apostrophes

For writing this week we have been learning about apostrophes. Our first task was to complete the contractions. I found this task very easy, because I completed this activity really fast. When I completed this task I learnt that apostrophes are used in two different ways.

Hyperbole

Today, I finished a writing task about hyperboles. We had to write our story about our unfortunate walk home. In our stories we had to add in five hyperboles. Hyperboles are extreme exaggerated statements which aren't meant to be taken seriously.

Metaphors

Today I have completed my DLO on metaphors. For this task I had to create a DLO and write down the sentences that were on the Writing site. I then had to highlight the metaphors in the sentences. After I have completed that activity I had to create a table and match up the first half of the sentence with the other half.

Similes DLO

Today for writing my group worked on similes. Similes are used to compare using the words as or like. We first needed to create a google drawing and match up the unfinished sentences. After that we had to choose on of the sentences and put it on a different DLO. I decided to choose as fast as lightning. Here is a link to my first DLO.

Language Features - Similes

Today for writing we have been working similes. A simile is comparing something using as or like. We had to fill a sheet and fill in the missing word. After we finished that we had to make a DLO on one of the sentences. Here are the other sentences we had to fill out.
I’m as busy as a bee
It’s as slippery as an eel

She’s as quick as a fox

He’s as blind as a bat
She’s as wise as an owl
She’s as happy as a lark
It’s as slow as a snail
He’s as stubborn as a mule
He’s as gentle as a lamb
He’s as strong as an ox
I’m as sick as a dog

Walking with fear...

This is my five minute recount about my favourite moment about camp.

I checked my harness for the 17th time. I was ready. I started to get higher and higher. My heart was pounding like a loud drum. As I was reaching the top, my wobbly legs started to slip. I didn’t give up so I held on tight and continued to climb. When our instructor let me back down I was relieved.

We then had to climb again but it wasn’t the same one. It was much higher! I grabbed onto the ladder and started to climb. After carefully climbing I reached the beam. I walked really steadily to the other side. Rain drops started to fall on me. Each drop shook me a little bit. I regretted climbing on it then. I paused at the end of the beam and took a breath. My group then started to cheer for me. That motivated me to keep on going.

I hobbled backwards to the middle of the beam and was then told to do push ups. I felt really nervous. After I did my push ups I was let down. Never in my life was I so happy to be on the ground.

Term 1 to Term 4 Letter

 Term 1 AJ
When you read this near the end of the year I hope that you have completed all your goals. Did you make it to the inter - school you wanted to go to? I am sort of good at finishing my work on time so I am sure that I will be even better at finishing my work on time. So if you need to finish your work on time you should stay on task and keep focused on the work you are doing. When a teacher is speaking you are paying attention during the lesson so you know what to do. I hope you improve in writing, reading and maths.
From Term 1 AJ

Hello term 1 AJ, wow, the year has gone really fast. I am sure that I have been in every inter-school that I wanted to be and tomorrow I am going to inter-school athletics. I have been getting better and better and finishing my work on time. I have been respecting the teachers and listening to them when they are speaking so that is good. In reading I have been learning about lots of new things like synthesizing. In writing I think that I have improved because I have learnt how to use dialogue correctly and I have been adding more similes in my work. I am not sure about maths but I know that I am learning how to multiply decimal numbers.

5 Minutes Of ...

Operation Rescue
I shivered in the early morning cold, standing there on the beach, in my togs. I decided to have a good morning swim. I leaped off the wharf and started swimming, the water was freezing! I continued to swim further and further until I couldn’t reach the bottom of the sea. Then, I noticed something out of the corner of my eye, a humongous wave was heading straight for me, and with no time to swim away, I braced myself for the impact. As the huge waves crashed down on me, I struggled to breathe.

I managed to get above the water and breathe in some fresh air, then I saw more waves coming at me, each as big as the others. The wind howled - as if it was laughing at my fate. I tried to put my arm up, desperately wanted to be rescued. It was at that moment, I saw it. The Westpac helicopter saw me in trouble, and attempted to save me. Then the winch came down, with a man on it, he put a safety harness around me and we went slowly back up into the helicopter. “Thank you for saving my life” I said gratefully.
“Next time you should decide carefully when you go swimming, especially in this awful weather” the medic told me.

My Narative

My Leap Of Faith
“I must get more confident if I want to be able to fly” I said to Mother Owl. “I know, but if you want to succeed you must keep on trying” she replied back. So I followed my mother's advice and kept on trying. “Well, here I go” I mumbled just before I lifted my feet. I leaped off the branch and started to flap my wings. It was super great feeling but just that moment, I felt myself falling down to the solid ground. I walked back to the branch with disappointment. “Mother I just can’t do it, I am probably going to fail again” I told her.
“You can’t fly straight away son, it takes time and I am sure you can fly when you are older” Mother Owl said to me.

“Ha ha, I knew you would fail like you usually do” Michael mocked me.
“You don’t need tease me because I can’t fly Michael and stop being a show off” I stood up for myself.
“Yes I do, so tell me when you do know how to fly, like you ever will and I might change my behaviour” he told me.
I felt gloomy and walked back to the branch.

“Don’t listen to that mean bully son” Mother Owl said to me.
“Walk away from them and don’t worry about what other people think” she added on. Her kind words cheered me up a little bit so I went for another attempt. “ Yes, yes i’m flying” I shouted with happiness. In my head I heard Michael’s voice and him mocking me. It kept on repeating. “ Ouch, who cares, Michaels is right I am never going to fly” I sadly said.

When I got back to the branch my mother saw that I felt bitter and knew what happened. “Hear me son, you should never give up on what you want to do and who cares about what Michael thinks, you just have to believe in yourself” she told me. “ You’re right mum, I need to believe in myself” I replied back. “Thank you for motivating me” I added on.

So here I go. “Yes, I am finally doing it, I am flying” I yelled at the top of my lungs. Michael heard and went to have a peek. I then landed on the ground next to Michael. “ So maybe I was wrong, and I shouldn't of judged you I am sorry” he said. “ Apology accepted” I responded From then on I just had to believe in myself and I knew that I can accomplish anything.

6 Sentence Story Prompt

This is my presentation that I have made with my partner CJ. We both worked as a team to write each story. We wrote a six sentence picture prompts about a picture that was from Harris Burdick. For the first sentence we had to write once upon a time and introduce the character. The second is when we had to tell where the character lived. The third sentence is when we tell what special talent the character has. The fourth sentence is when we introduce the problem. The fifth sentence is what the character feels and the sixth sentence is when you have to tell how the character solved the problem.

Giant Panda Information Report

Giant Pandas
One of the most rarest animals in the wild. The Giant Panda, unless threatened is not harmful. This huge creature is treasured in China as it is the native animal of that country.

Appearance
This animal has black and white fur all over it. By their shape and size did you know they are a part of the bear family? While standing on their legs their height is around 2 to 3 feet at the shoulder. Males can weigh up to 250 pounds and are more heavy than female pandas.

Diet
The Giant Panda is an omnivore which means that it eats meat as well as plants. Did you know that they can eat up 12 - 38kgs a day? You may not know this but they can eat around 20 different types of bamboo.
Habitat
These furry Pandas are located in the tall bamboo forests in China. Some of them were born in zoos. Zookeepers train them and when they are old enough they can go in the wild.

Threats
Sadly some of it’s home is being destroyed to make more buildings and make objects out of bamboo. Some other animals find them as their prey and eat them. These Pandas are trained to escape predators if they were brought up in zoos.

Conclusion

We need to help to increase the number of the Giant Panda and not destroy their habitat. Over the past decade giant pandas numbers has risen 17 percent. Their food is in their habitat so they can eat and they will starve. They are already endangered so please stop.

Writing Narrative

The Journey For A New Owner
On a normal day our owner took us out for a walk. We were all  having the time of my lives, until he walked pass shoe shop and saw a shoe the stood out of all of them. “ Wow, these shoes look incredible” said the owner. “ I am going to buy these shoes, the ones I have now are too old” he added on. Off we went flying away and landed next to an old dusty rubbish bin, my owner ditched us for something else. We were really heart broken. There were horrible cockroaches were crawling all over us, rats biting, and water splashing it's a disaster. “There is nothing to do and it’s so boring” said one of the shoes. Then I heard something, it was a truck coming towards me and we were horrified that I will get taken away and burn me but it wasn't a rubbish truck it was one of those trucks who collect furniture and sell it. Thrown into the truck in we were with other dirty things. “This is so disgusting” said one of the shoes. It was a long trip but we ended up at a random house. “Yay, I have got some new cool shoes for free” shouted the person. He was so excited that he got shoes for free. We finally felt better and not lonely anymore. We were so grateful for a new owner who liked us.

This is my writing that I made with my writing buddy CJ. Before we started writing we had to plan and use the five senses. Then we used our plan to help us write our story. I started writing first and when I finished writing one sentence I had to pass the chrome book to CJ who has his back on my back.
