Summer Learning Journey - Bonus Activity

For this activity I had to go on the Gallipoli website. I then had to write three things I learned about the battle.

1. About half of the Otago Infantry Battalion were killed, wounded or missing after trying to attack on May 3rd 1915.
2. 42,000 Turks attacked the ANZAC's and out of the 42,000 Turks who attacked the ANZAC's, 10,000 were casualties.
3. On the first day of battle at Gallipoli there were 650 New Zealand casualties.

  3. Hi AJ,

Wow - these are some pretty sobering facts, aren't they? It's incredible to think that 10 000 Turkish soldiers lost their lives in the Battle of Gallipoli and that 650 Australian and New Zealand troops lost their lives in the first day of the battle. Apparently, a total of 11 488 ANZACs lost their lives in the Battle of Gallipoli.

Whenever I think back to this battle or any of the wars fought by brave men and women around the world, I feel very grateful to live in New Zealand. We're so lucky aren't we?

Thanks for reminding me/us of this important fact, AJ.

Keep up the great work :)

    Cheers,
    Rachel
