Activity 2: In the ancient Olympic Games the winner of each event was called the Olympionic. Instead of a gold medal, the winner had a palm leaf placed in their hands and a crown placed on their head to show that they were the winner. Arguably one of the most famous Olympionics was a man named ‘Milo of Croton’ (see picture below). Use Google to research ‘Milo of Croton’ and post three interesting facts about him on your blog.
1. One story says the wrestler saved the philosopher's life when a roof was about to fall on him.
2. The date of Milo's death is unknown. He was said to be splitting a tree in half when his hands became trapped in the tree.
3.Milo trained by carrying a calf daily from its birth until it became a full-sized ox.
Hi Aj:
ReplyDeleteYou have pointed out some great facts about this guy that I didn't know. I can't believe the interesting fact number 3. Keep up the great work.
Hi Aj, some of the facts about Milo were a bit insane. For fact number 2 I think a pack of wolves came when his hands were stuck and you know the rest. Keep up the great work and good luck to everyone who is doing the winter learning journey.
ReplyDeleteHi AJ!
ReplyDeleteGreat facts - you have definitely chosen three of the most interesting pieces of information about Milo of Croton. He was certainly an interesting man! If you were to reflect on the information that you learned about Milo, which fact would you say is the most interesting? I personally think that Fact #3 is incredibly interesting. I find it hard to believe that he could carry a calf around his neck everyday until it grew into a full-size ox...
What about you?
Cheers, Rachel
Hi AJ

I have planned a reading activity around him and from your responses I can see that you are going to be able to add valuable extra information to our learning.
