Winter Learning Journey Participation and Prizes

During assembly Rachael Williamson from Auckland University came to our school to congratulate everyone who participated in Winter Learning Journey Challenge. She gave everyone who participated certificates. Then she announced the first, second and third place winners. All the winners were from my class. Nesi came third, Daniel came second and I came first. She also said Panmure Bridge School had the most bloggers then any other school.

Book Character Parade

Today in the morning Panmure Bridge School had a school book character parade. For this we had to dress up as a character from a book. We all went to the hall and listen to some of the teachers characters. Also After the teachers told us about their characters the students were called to go on stage and show their costume. Each class went on at a time. My class LS2 went last.

Advertising DLO

This is my Advertisements DLO that I made with my group. My group was Zeba, Nazella, Harry and Latham. The image at the bottom of my DLO shows my group working together. There had to be one writer and the rest of the group had to read writing on a piece of paper. When one person goes up to the paper and read some of the writing they had to run back and tell the writer what to write down. The writer had to write down the exact punctuation. At the end we had to tally mark all the things we got wrong.

Attributing Images

This is my DLO that I have created about attributing images. The first step I had to do was go on google images. Then click on search tools, click on usage rights. After that click on labeled for reuse. Next choose an image you want and click on visit page. You then copy and paste the URL to your DLO and put it under photo. After that you had to write the author. Finally you get the licence which is Public Domain or CC BY 2.0

Winter Learning Journey - 2 Ways I Could Raise Money

For this activity I had to find 2 ways my friends, my family or I could raise money to support New Zealand athletes.
  1.  I could go to people I know and ask if they can support the New Zealand athletes.
  2. I can hold a garage sale. I can sell things that I don't really use anymore.

Winter Learning Journey - Paralympic Games

At the moment the most famous para-cycling team in New Zealand is comprised of two female athletes – Emma Foy and Laura Thompson. Emma is blind but Laura is not. Together they work as an amazing team. Imagine that you were asked to compete in a tandem cycling event and you had to choose one person to compete with. Who would it be? On your blog, tell us who you would compete with and why. If it was me, I would choose my son, Aronui because he’s pretty fast and very funny. He would make me laugh as we biked along and would be very supportive and encouraging! I know that I could trust him to be a good teammate. Who would you choose?

For this activity I think that I would choose my mum because she is encouraging and she is great at sports. I also think that we work together really well.

Winter Learning Journey - Write The End Of The Paragraph/Story.

Blog (Activity 2) = 4 points

Bonus: Imagine that you are sitting in the crowd at the opening ceremonies for the Rio Olympics this August. The ceremony has just started and all of the Olympic athletes are parading around the stadium in their uniforms when all of a sudden all of the lights turned off and it was pitch black. It was so scary it was like I was in a haunted house. I heard people screaming like they saw a ghost. A few seconds later the lights turned back on. I don't know why but New Zealand supporters started screaming. The New Zealand Olympic athletes were making their entrance. I started shouting and cheering for them. Then they came to the crowd to give autographs. I was so lucky that I got to get an autograph from Nick Willis (he is a New Zealand Olympic athlete who competes in long distance running). When I grow I wanted to be just like him.

Winter Learning Journey - Day 6 Activity 2

Activity 2: The opening ceremonies for every Olympic Games must include formal speeches, a parade of athletes, songs and dances that showcase the culture of the host country. Follow this link to watch the highlights of opening ceremonies for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England.

In the opening ceremony for the London Olympics there were a number of famous English people including the Queen, the Spice Girls, David Bowie, U2, the Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney. Imagine that we were going to host the Olympics here in New Zealand in 2024 and you were invited to be on the committee that decides who is invited to participate in the opening ceremonies. As a member of the group you must choose one of the following people to be in the opening ceremony: Richie McCaw (rugby player), Lorde (singer), Kane Williamson (cricket player), Maria Tutaia (netball player), John Key (prime minister of New Zealand) or Shaun Johnson (league player). On your blog, tell us who you think is the best person to choose and explain why you think that they are the best choice!

I decided that I would choose Richie McCaw because all of the things the things he has accomplished in rugby for the Crusaders and the All Blacks. I also choose him because he is a sports athlete and in the Olympics different sports are included in it. So that is why I didn't choose John Key and Lorde.

Winter Learning Journey - Entertaining The Crowd

Activity 1: For all Olympic opening and closing ceremonies, the athletes from each country must wear a special uniform. The uniforms change each year. Look at the 3 pictures posted below. They are pictures of the uniforms that our New Zealand Olympic teams wore in 2012, 2008 and 2004. For this activity, you are asked to rank the uniforms from best (#1) to worst (#3). On your blog post your rankings and provide a brief explanation of why you ranked the uniforms in that order.

#1:Athens Olympics 2004
I picked the Athens Olympics 2004 New Zealand uniform as number one because for me it looks quite cool and it has the colours of New Zealand on them which are black and white.

#2: Beijing Olympics 2008
I choose the Beijing Olympics in 2008 New Zealand uniform as number 2 because it has the silver fern on it which presents New Zealand.

#3 London Olympics 2012
Lastly I chose this as my last pick because some people might not know if they are from New Zealand because there are no big symbols.Image result for 2012 olympics london new zealand uniform

Winter Learning Journey - Day 5 Bonus

For this activity I had to think of someone who inspires me in my own life. For this activity I choose my parents because they are nice, kind and supportive. They always encourage me to do things and tell me to never give up. They also help me when I need help.

Winter Learning Journey - Eddie The Eagle

Today I watched a trailer of a movie called Eddie The Eagle. I really liked the trailer because Eddie never gave up on his dream to be in the Winter Olympics. A lot of people thought that he would never be in the Winter Olympics. His parents too thought he could never make it. Near the end of the trailer he got better because he kept on practicing. He was really good role model to others because he didn't listen to other people and he always tried his best.

Winter Learning Journey - Be The Inspiration

For this activity I had to watch a video called Be The Inspiration which was created by the New Zealand Olympic team.  I had to rate the video by stars like this *.  One star is a very bad movie, two stars was a bad movie, three stars was an okay movie, fours stars was a good movie and five stars was very good movie. I would rate this video *****(five stars) because this video talks about inspiring other people to do things they want to do and try their best.

Winter Learning Jouruney

For this activity I got to choose which New Zealand athlete I would meet if I could. I had to choose from Lauren Boyle, Stuart Farquhar and Andrea Kilday.  I choose Lauren Boyle because she is a really great swimmer and I like to swim too. I am confident when I am in water. It would be a great opportunity if I could meet one of New Zealand's greatest swimmers. Image result for lauren boyle

Winter Learning Journey - Jacko Gill

This is one of the activities for the Winter Learning Journey. For this activity I had to choose a New Zealand Competitor who is going to the Olympics this year. I chose Jacko Gill who is going to be competing in Shot Put.

Winter Learning Journey - Poem

This year two sports are being reintroduced into the Olympic Games. They are golf and sevens rugby. Imagine that you worked for TVNZ and you were paid to travel to Rio de Janeiro to attend the Olympic Games and report on the golf and/or the rugby competitions. On your blog, write a poem that describes how you would feel about travelling to Rio.

Flying on the plane and waiting all night,
Couldn't wait to see the beautiful sight.
This is going to be really fun,
To see and and watch rugby players tackle and run.
I attended the Olympics because I came to report,
sevens rugby an incredible sport.

Winter Learning Journey - Handball

Today I have completed an activity for the Winter Learning Journey. For this activity I had to go on a website and try find a sport that is going to be in the Olympics and I have never heard of before. I need to include the name of the sport, the aim of it and two rules for the sport.
  1. Handball
  2.  Two teams of seven players pass the ball hand to hand and attempt to score by throwing it into the other team’s goal the team with the highest score at the end of the game wins.
  3. After receiving the ball players can pass, keep possession or shoot the ball. The ball may not be passed back to the goalkeeper when they are positioned in the goal area.Image result for handball
