Re-Craft Narrative
The Backfire
It was the year 1915 the military were on there way to Gallipoli to fight the Turkish army. There were four groups. Staff Sergeant Nick was the leader for the first group, Sergeant Bret was the leader for the second group, Corporal Mike was the leader for the third group and Private Matt was the leader for the fourth group. When they were about to land from the helicopter they so some people from the Turkish army looking for them so they started to fire at them. They killed all of them. Lucky no one from the military was killed. They started to stop and they started to make the trenches. In the evening Nick, Bret, Mike and Matt started to plan. Bret came up with a idea to attack the Turkish army. It was getting late so they went to sleep.
In the morning the woke up and they someone missing. It was Matt. They went and woke up the rest of the military to help them find Matt. They didn't know that Matt was working for the Turkish army. So while the military was looking for him he went to the Turkish army's territory and told them the military's plan to attack them. In the military Mike thought that maybe the Turkish army kidnapped him so they went to spy on them. When they got there they saw Matt talking to them. They were really angry at them. A little while later they decided to see what they are planning. They heard their plan to make a trap for them so they went back to their territory and decided to make an ambush for them.
Tomorrow came and they were waiting for them. A couple of minutes later they saw them. They waited for them to come a bit closer then they attacked. They were lots of Turkish people but they managed to kill them all. Then they found another one hiding in the bush. Nick shoot him. They went to see who it was and it was Matt. The military survived the war. They decided to go back home to their families. They all said goodbye and they couldn't wait for their next mission.

Battleships
This game is called battleships. I learnt how to read coordinates. In the game battleships you had to play against someone. You had to read out the coordinates you choose and that is where you fire. The first on to fire all of your opponents ships wins.

ANZACs and Us
LI: Understand background information about ANZAC.
Most Anzac day services begin with a march of returned service personnel
wearing shiny medals, and marching behind banners and standards. The veterans marched joined by other community groups, including members of the armed forces, the Red Cross, cadets etc.
The march continues to the local war memorial, where a service takes place. This includes the laying of wreaths from various organisations and members of the public. Flowers have traditionally laid on graves and memorials in memory of the dead or past. Laurel and rosemary are often made in wreaths. Laurel is used by the ancient Romans as a symbol of honour and was wove for wreath to crown victors or the brave. Rosemary is used for remembrance. The wreaths are laid to honour the people who have died fighting for New Zealand.
The poppy has become the symbol of Anzac Day. The Flanders poppy as it is called grew in the trenches and craters of the war zone in Belgium and at Gallipoli. These poppies grow wild in the spring. The soldiers thought of the poppies as soldiers who had died . The poppy was first famous by Colonel J.M. McCrae's poem in Flanders' Fields. Poppies are sold on the day before Anzac Day to raise money for the R.S.A. [Returned Services Association]
In most ceremonies of remembrance there is a reading of a poem. This is often "The Ode to the Fallen" by Laurence Binyon. It was first published in the Times newspaper in 1914.
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going the of the sun and in the morning.
We will remember them.
The last post of the trumpet call sounded in army barracks at 10pm at night to mark the end of the days activities. It is also played at military funerals and commemorative services to show that the soldier's day has drawn to a final close.
This is usually followed by a period of silence for one or two minutes as a sign of respect for those who have died. After observing the silence the flags are raised from half-mast to the masthead. The Rouse is then played. The Rouse called the soldier's spirits to arise and awaken for another day.
The Reveille is played at dawn services instead of the Rouse. The Reveille is played only at the first call in the morning. It woke the soldiers up at dawn.
Often hymns are sung and speeches made. The important part of the ceremony is to remember those who died.
